Monday Forecast

7:19AM

DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 17-21)
This 5-day forecast brings us to the summer solstice which occurs at 11:54AM EDT on Friday June 21. There may be a little irony there because after a decent day today, the weather pattern this week may not have you thinking of summer that much until just about the moment it begins, if timing is just right. After high pressure gives us nice weather today, a frontal boundary sitting just south of or over southern New England will be the focus for disturbances and episodic showers Tuesday into early Friday, focused on daytime Tuesday and late Thursday to very early Friday, which may get out of here just in time for the official start of summer, allowing Friday to end nice…
Forecast details…
TODAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 75-82. Wind N up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Clouds return. Lows 55-62. Wind light variable.
TUESDAY: Cloudy. Showers likely. Highs 68-75. Wind light variable to SE.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers. Lows 58-65. Wind light SE.
WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Isolated showers. Highs 73-80, coolest coast. Wind light variable.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 57-64. Wind light variable.
THURSDAY: Becoming cloudy. Showers likely by late-day. Highs 70-77. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Showers likely. Risk of a thunderstorm. Lows 60-67. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Cloudy with lingering showers/drizzle/fog early, then clearing. Highs 71-78. Wind variable to NW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 22-26)
High pressure should provide nice weather for the June 22-23 weekend before a low pressure wave brings wet weather June 24, followed by a return to fair weather and a more summer feel later in the period.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 27-JULY 1)
West to east flow over a high pressure ridge to the south and west of New England is a pattern that brings warm to occasional hot weather in, is rain-free most of the time, but also provides a few opportunities moving along the jet stream to bring a shower/t-storm threat. This is the pattern currently expected for this period.

  1. Thanks TK!

I am in good agreement with your thoughts right now. Unsettled the next few days. Growing indications that we are going to turn hot for the last week or so of the month. Still a few details to iron out. A big pattern change in the Pacific will certainly favor heat getting into the East. Still a pesky tendency for Greenland blocking which could throw a wrench in things at least initially. But that would probably just be delaying the inevitable, and I think we’ll see at least a couple days of widespread 90+ into SNE by the end of the month. Early indications are that it won’t be a very dry heat either. So I’d say get ready for some triple H next week.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

My MIL who has long passed would have called yesterday a PUNK day and I would agree. We made the best of it as SIL grilled some yummy filets on the grill underneath
    the back deck.

Stupendous day today and I am serious! Absolutely beautiful!!!!!

    1. Check your name.

I notice a couple first letters capitalized and the middle letter not. Has it always been that way ?

  3. Interesting encounter while fishing Saturday.

I was sitting on rocks tossing my line in and out for about 10 minutes, when
I noticed a “furry” figure moving about 10 feet to my right. I thought that it
might be a muskrat, but when I took a close look I saw that it was a juvenile
raccoon. I am not afraid of raccoons as I really like them, however I am petrified
of rabies. Raccoon’s being nocturnal animals, My immediate thought was
that is might very well be rabid. I tried scaring it away to no avail. I start threatening
it and screaming at it and then it got up on it’s hind legs. I got the hell out of there
in a hurry steering well clear of the animal.

That whole encounter pissed me off. It didn’t necessarily mean it was rabid, but
“usually” when you see one in the day, it is rabid. I did not see any foam around
its mouth, so perhaps it was not, but no sense taking any chances.

    One never knows…..

    1. I think you cannot take the chance with so much rabies and it is a shame. I would have done exactly what you did.

We did the same with the three baby foxes last week. The one with the injured hind leg was on its own and jumping in circles oddly. I asked Matt if it could be rabies. He had said not likely but not definite. When we saw them together this past weekend, the injured one seemed fine. But still…..

    2. Raccoons near the ocean follow the tides for seafood like crabs, snails etc. You can see them through 24 hours.

      1. Thanks Matt. This one was on the edge of the river. Perhaps same type of situation?? Or perhaps not. In any case, I stayed away.

  4. After last summer I hope this pans out. Tweet from Meteorologist Ben Noll
Seasonal guidance has been consistent on a more humid summer than normal for the central & western U.S. with near normal humidity along the East Coast.
    Better than last summer

  5. Ok I made the change let’s see . It happened when I clicked on Facebook update vs coming here

      1. I know Vicki I did press cap for S definitely my end but if this posts I believe I’m good . Thank you for the suggestions

      1. Lower back-has for awhile on rain days due to other issues, but lately places where I know I have arthritis have been acting up. Could also just be stress…

    1. He indicated just the opposite on Twitter a couple of days ago. Seems to be a case of going as the Euro goes, and it’s been all over the map the past few days. Was warm, now cooler. But if you’re going by the pattern, we should see some very warm to hot weather before month’s end.

    2. Yeah, he’s been flip flopping around with model runs, exactly what should not be done.

  6. As I said a few weeks ago patience for those who love the 3 H weather. We got a long ways to go. In the mean time enjoy having more money in your pockets thanks to not having to run those AC’s.

  7. Beautiful outside. September/October in June. If this could be our summer, I’d sign on the dotted line and hand over a couple of thousand to the weather gods. I believe, however, that I’m asking for way too much, as 3H is coming, whether this month or next.

  8. Philip, I’m sort of `bottling it up’ as I have my windows wide open. I did the same last week. It’s refreshing. I figure the longer this lasts the shorter the 3H season will be.

    1. I’m struggling with some sort of allergic reaction.that is new to me. But I gave up worrying and opened some windows today. I don’t keep things closed in winter and it irritates me to no end having to do that in spring/summer.

  9. You know your going to get 3 H weather it is just a question of how much your going to deal with during the summer and in winter you know were going to get snow its just a question of how much. After last summer dew points in the mid 60s like today don’t feel too bad.

  10. One might think Friday is the first day of Fall the way some outlets are playing up the
    “All downhill from here hype……..”

      1. Nah, we just have a society obsessed with living next week and forgetting what today is. 😉
