It’s a matter of opinion, but if you make a list of great weather weekends, the one upcoming will end up near or at the top.
High pressure will be in control of the weather for the next several days. We’re on the cool side of this high now and will remain there through Friday, before we get to the warm side for the remainder of the dry weather stretch, which is expected to last through Tuesday. Record high temperatures are possible on Sunday (Boston’s record is 82 for October 9). Very slight cooling may take place toward the end of the dry stretch as winds shift more northerly, but it will still be running much warmer than normal.
Things may get unsettled around the middle of next week, but it’s a long way off and not easily nailed down this far out.

TK, thanks for the update — this weekend looks GREAT!
Thank you again for your eastern Europe forecast. We all took some warm weather clothing based on your prognostications, and it was warm. We had 1 day of rain in the beginning as you forecasted. And when it came to Prague, we ended up with no rain at all. Just sun.
You’re welcome. Excellent that it worked out for you! And I’m glad the weather at the end did hold on fair. I wanted to tell you it would be great but the guidance for several runs in a row shifted low pressure eastward. Turns out, the block held and the ridge stayed over you.
It sure did not take long for that wind to die down, those temps are going to plummet.
Even though I don’t have it in my range, watch someone get to 28 tonight… Who will it be?
Son is camping in Stockbridge VT. No tent. I’m guessing he’ll wake up with frost on him
Many years ago, my wife and I went camping on Columbus Day Weekend in North Adams, MA. A serious cold front came through that had snowshowers with it. That evening, the skies cleared and the winds relaxed. When we woke the next morning, there were solid chunks of frozen water on the picnic table cover on our site. It was in the mid to upper 20s until the sun warmed things up. Coldest night of camping I have ever been through.
To me – currently sitting in the family room beside a fire – it sounds like a special and romantic memory for you and your wife! My perspective may be off slightly;)
Norwood? The valley always gets really cold there. B
I agree with Hadi. I use to work within 50′ of the airport tower and I would get much colder there than the surrounding towns. Sometime boston would be 32 and norwood would be 18.
Plymouth airport sometimes gets pretty low.
Norwood dropped 10F in the last hour to 43F.
And it’s only 8:30!
I’m guessing 33 framingham.
I have 42 right now in Hanover. That temp is taken 12 feet off the ground.
From frost in parts of SNE to summer like temps during the weekend. You got to love New England weather.
43 in framingham. I may have to adjust my guess upwards. And JJ I am sure there are lovelier places to live but I can’t think of one. I do love new England.
Down to 44 as of 9:17 in Marblehead with a 60% humidity, I’m almost positive a frost will be present by morning for my town. I’m guessing a low of 34.
From Matt Noyes:
it’s already 38 degrees in East Harwich, while it’s 48 just 13 miles away in Yarmouth.
I will consider this Columbus Day weekend 2011 a “top ten” assuming the dew points stay under 55F! Much of this fall including this month so far has felt more like mid-summer as it is with dp’s of well over 60+ at times…almost tempted to one final BBQ but I vowed years ago never again past Labor Day. 😉
5am….34F in Taunton….the real cold stuff seems to be in Maine, where almost every station is at 32F or below. Light north wind in Marshfield has it at 52F and I notice the Boston Harbor water temp is still 59F.
It is 32 degrees in Sudbury right now – at 6:43 a.m. Through the trees to the southeast the sky is different shades of pink – pretty sunrise!
We ended up with some high clouds that prevented temps from dropping too much. Dew points were in the mid 30’s.
it was 36 in Framingham at 5:45 this morning and couldn’t have been much lower in the night since my impatiens are still fine.
I get the feeling that temps did not fall quite as much as expected…am I correct on that?
They did in some areas, not all. A substantial amount of high clouds generated just north of New England and moved SSE across the sky after 1AM, acting as a bit of a blanket. I think we ended up 2 to 4 degrees warmer than we would have, because of this cloud area.
From AccuWeather: “Worst of Winter 2011-2012 Aimed for Chicago”
http://www.accuweather.com/blogs/news/story/55995/worst-of-winter-20112012-aimed.asp
Very surprising to note that Boston beats out Chicago for annual snowfall by 3 inches (42″ vs. 39″)…at least Boston can win at “something”, LOL. 🙂
Boston beats Chicago in average wind speed too. 🙂
What a great day!
Henry’s flooding rainstorm is probably not going to produce all that much rain here next week. Maybe a moderate amount. I think he jumped the gun on that based on a questionable GFS.
