Saturday Forecast

8:38AM

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 4-8)
The very large and strong ocean storm that brought wind, rain, and some coastal flooding over the last couple days is now pulling away, having completed its cyclonic loop offshore southeast of New England. This means there will be slight improvement in the weather this weekend. Enough dry air should work in from the north today to break up the clouds to allow at least partial sun for some of the region. By Sunday will be enjoying a milder land breeze, but lots of clouds will still be around as a trough and weak front approach from the west. This front may deliver a few rain showers Sunday night before moving offshore and opening the door for an area of high pressure with fair and milder weather for Monday. A back-door cold front may slip down the coast from Maine into southern New England Tuesday to chill the region down somewhat, and this may set up a chilly and wet Wednesday as a wave of low pressure comings along from the west.
TODAY: Cloudy start with area of drizzle especially South Shore to South Coast of MA. Mostly cloudy to partly sunny midday on. Highs 45-52. Wind N to NW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts especially near coastal areas through midday.
TONIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 38-45. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Highs 50-57. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. A passing rain shower possible. Lows 43-50. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 57-64. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 40-47. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Highs 48-55 occurring in the morning or midday, then cooler. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Chance of drizzle. Areas of fog. Lows 38-45. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Cloudy. Periods of rain. Areas of fog. Highs 41-48. Wind E 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 9-13)
Tricky forecast with timing and boundaries. Here’s my best shot. Warm front passes and puts us briefly into breezy and warmer conditions April 9 but the day may start chilly and damp and end with rain showers as a cold front approaches. Dry, windy, cooler April 10-11. Will have to watch for a wave of low pressure with chilly and unsettled weather April 12 and/or 13. This system may be occurring with cold enough air around for some mixing with frozen precipitation, but it’s a long way off so will monitor trends.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 14-18)
Overall pattern looks cooler than average. Best chance of unsettled weather comes in the April 15-17 window.

  1. Thank you, TK.

Monday looks like a beautiful spring tease. Pick of the week. Heck, maybe pick of the month.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

So far, any frozen precip appears to be relegated to NNE in the upcoming period.
Plenty of time, so we shall see.

Recorded 1.76 inches of rain during this long rain event. Don’t know the final total for Logan, but according to what Wankum said last night it seems extraordinarily low.
Is their rain gauge now kaput?

    1. Logan’s “grand” total = 0.96”

I do find it suspicious compared to yours since “technically” they were closest to the storm’s influence itself. If their precip instruments are indeed off, I certainly hope they fix them in time for the 2020-21 “snow” season. 😉

  3. I keep reading the blog forecast as cloudy with a chance of meatballs….apparently I’ve been listening to a lot of home schooling

  4. Thanks TK.

I’m willing to throw in the towel on snow for Boston at this point. I know – this is new england. But I have been feeling “no way no how” the past week. There was no April Fools storm in the cards. I will be on this very day putting the snow shovels in the shed. I will also take up the little stakes I put in the ground to mark the width of the driveway for shoveling. Is that taunting mother nature? Most certainly. But I feel safe to taunt at this point.

  5. Walked the shore at high tide. Plenty of waves but the surf was sort of the wild and rough type.Windy and cool and I should note people were keeping their distance.

    1. I would love the calm of the ocean right now. I did see some nasty waves breaking over some homes in Humarock yesterday

  6. I took a drive to the shoreline a little after high tide this morning. It was more investigation to see if in a future high tide / splash-over event I may be able to park somewhere with a short walk to the sea wall in the Lynn / Swampscott area for pics and/or video, since parking is currently prohibited along the shore road. It was successful. I did find a couple places for future consideration that are not only open but legal. I may be putting this to use in about 4 or 5 days, because we may have a period of strong onshore wind coinciding with the full moon.

Today I witnessed some rough ocean coming into shore, but nothing I haven’t seen before. Spashover was still occurring at the sea wall, but modest compared to other times I have visited. I did not take any pics or video there today since I could only pull over briefly. But it’s ok, I got a plan now. >=)

    1. Those places may be legal “for now”. If others get the same idea, Gov. Baker may very well shut your desired location as well. 😉

Be extra careful for those waves TK! Stay safe. 🙂

      1. I go with the idea of “park nearby and walk” for any photo opportunities at this point. You get some exercise and can maybe catch some nice photos along the way to your primary destination. So even if areas open now for parking are closed I can still do some photography.

      2. I don’t think too many people are going to park a half mile away during a storm and crowd the seawall walkway. I’m not worried about that. Done this many times. 😉

  7. According to pollen.com the pollen levels are on the rise in my area. There are only two things I hate about spring – the return of insects and pollen. Ants have been somehow making their way into a back bedroom of our house. We have a natural spray that kills them on contact but I don’t have the funds to call an exterminator (and also don’t want to have anyone in the house lol.) So just gunna have to spray away.

    1. Pollen is 1 to 2 weeks ahead of “average” so it’s an early season for the sufferers of the early trees. I’ve had allergy issues (though not severe) since mid March. They are responsible for triggering one migraine so far due to inner sinus pressure.

      1. Youngest will say the same. I like to go on record saying if you didn’t have allergies as a youth…NO ONE should have them as an adult . Whatever I have is in the headache range

        1. I didn’t have allergies as a youth but have them as an adult. I wish I kept that sort of immunity lol

  8. Red sky this morning…

For the first time in several months, most of my a.m. commute was in daylight without the need for streetlights. Out the door was still dark though but even that should change in another week. 🙂
