  1. With 60,000 cases, MA has about 2% of all cases in the world. Add in 250+ deaths yesterday and I am not feeling good about the 18th. I keep wondering when all the numbers will head downward in our state. I know that some of the numbers look a little better so that is good. In order to “reopen,” the numbers are going to have to go down starting Monday the 4th through Monday the 18th. Let us hope.

  2. And God bless my son…..he is his father through and through. He just told his sister he had covid over weekend. Mac wouldn’t want to worry anyone either. But …….

I’m hearing he is improved but felt awful for a few days. For him that says a lot as he never says he feels awful.

    1. Geez, this never ends, does it? I hope he feels as well as he says and he is completely recovered now or very soon.

      1. Thank you. I just talked with him and he sounds good. He said his dr said three days symptom free and he can return to work. I had not heard this. I thought it was two negative tests.

He also said getting tested in RI is really Easy

          1. Thanks Joshua. His sister said her first reaction was surprise that he didn’t tell us but quickly realized I’d be a wreck if I knew during. So in hindsight I’m happy I didn’t know. Now to worry about his son and GF.

              1. He did not. He has expected all along to get it because of where he works. He had chills, night sweats, fever but doesn’t have a thermometer, gastro upset, bad body aches and couldn’t move out of bed much. He started symptoms last Friday and says he is pretty much himself now.

    2. Hope your son gets to feeling 100% soon. I will be thinking of him. Three days of no symptoms and return to work? Unless he had it for longer than he told you – that timeline feels a bit rushed. I have heard two negative tests but I’ve heard to ease the amount of people going to testing sites they will sometimes just give you quarantine advice.

      1. Thank you. I agree re his return. This is what his dr said and apparently MA corrections will take that as ok. I’m hoping he stays home longer. His first symptoms were last Friday am.

  3. A friend just emailed me this. I don’t have a link yet but looking

South Korean scientists have concluded that coronavirus patients cannot relapse after recovering from the disease, despite hundreds of recovered people testing positive again.

The new findings suggest that rather than indicating reinfection, the positive results were caused by shortcomings in the standard virus test. They will greatly reassure governments threatened by the nightmarish prospect of a never-ending cycle of infection and reinfection.

Positive test results on people who had tested negative were the result of “fragments” of the virus lingering in their bodies, but with no power to make them or ill or to infect others, according to South Korea’s central clinical committee for emerging disease control.
    ***
Oh Myoung-don, the head of the committee, said that the later positive results were caused by shortcomings in the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test that detects the virus’s genetic information, or RNA, in samples taken from patients. The test is unable to differentiate between “live” RNA and harmless traces that can remain in the body of someone who has fully recovered.

      1. Hahaha. Sorry. I clearly missed it or my mind was elsewhere. the latter happens far too often lately.

  4. Vicki…good news about you son! Where does he work and will he have to quarantine himself for 14 days? Just curious as to how he caught it.

    1. He is in corrections department but normally does not work in the jail itself. With courts closed his department of five is now in the jail.

  5. Walking around Copley Sq. earlier and still seeing joggers without masks. I don’t understand why they feel they are the exception. At least the Mayor is now aware of it.

    1. No excuse. But then too many of them will run two by two in the road with cars coming. I guess it is like every group….some irresponsible people but most are responsible.

      1. From what I can tell, most joggers are on the “irresponsible” side unfortunately. I’ve only seen two joggers do the right thing, and that is since the actual pandemic began. Hopefully more will wise up.

  6. There is a slow increase of toilet paper, paper towels and napkins on shelves. No restrictions per se from what I can tell but I imagine one who clearly hoards could get the “evil eye”.

Meat products are definitely rapidly disappearing from shelves. They could soon be the new “toilet paper” with shortages come next month due to sick packing employees. I heard on the news yesterday that workers were offered $500 bonuses to continue working side-by-side with no social distancing or masks. Some workers admitted on camera that they at times went to work “sick” just for the bonus.

    1. It is hard to tell if people are hoarding. Many will be purchasing for multiple people so those folks don’t have to go in stores. We bought a 50 lb bag of flour yesterday …well, my daughter did. But she is making bread, etc and went through 10 lbs in a few days.

    1. Not good. Long plateau continues. Many deaths. More or less same number of cases as yesterday. But, worse test positivity rate of more than 19% (that’s not a good sign at all). ICU usage pretty much the same. Hospitalization rate of 6% unchanged.

Numbers across the U.S. are still dismal in many states.

But, Jared Kushner says this is a “great success story.” I’m wondering what a failure would look like in his book – we all die, except for him and Ivanka.

    2. About 3 weeks ago (somewhere on here) I said my best guess based on info from an assortment of health experts I either know or pay attention to, I figured a long plateau would begin around April 20 and extend almost to May 20. It will end though, yes, absolutely.

  7. Apologies if anyone asked me any questions and I didn’t get to them. It’s been a busy few days at work. I hope everyone is well. The order will be extended. This will be a very long plateau followed by a slow decline. If we all do our part, we will get through this together.

    1. My first indication that the order would be extended was this section of an email sent out to all state workers: “The following guidance is in effect starting April 26, 2020 and will remain in effect until May 18, 2020. This communication extends the previous end date of May 4, 2020 and includes enhancements to clarify and update the guidance and Q&A’s based on our experience during this challenging period. Acknowledging that specific steps in returning additional staff to the workplace will be subject to multiple factors, this guidance will likely be revisited for extension, revision or rescission.”

It’s that last line that tipped off that the idea of an extension might be likely. I can’t see how it wouldn’t get extended based on the numbers today. But the unrest mounts. I understand it even if it is counter to the health of the populace. People need to work since the government isn’t doing everything possible to make it so they don’t need to work.

  8. In CT gradual reopening starting May 20th hair nail salons could reopen restaurants with outdoor seating. Large venues still will remain closed bars and the casinos. It is good to see the hospitalizations here have dropped for the 8th straight day.

    1. This lands solely at the feet of the president of the United States.

I don’t think it is legal

The Michigan State Police describe Michigan’s open carry law as follows:

“In Michigan, it is legal for a person to carry a firearm in public as long as the person is carrying the firearm with lawful intent and the firearm is not concealed. You will not find a law that states it is legal to openly carry a firearm. It is legal because there is no Michigan law that prohibits it; however, Michigan law limits the premises on which a person may carry a firearm.”

  9. I got a laugh from this headline on CNN:
“This Giant Asteroid Will Not Hit Earth Today”

    Things are certainly looking up!

    1. But notice they still had to use the words “giant”, “asteroid”, and “earth” in a headline. 😉

  10. I’ve always been:
    Anxious
    Depressed
    Homebody
Introvert who is good at mimicking extrovert…But the past 3 weeks, I realized I’m much more anxious, easily to tears (I HATE crying), and now it’s getting hard to leave the house, even for a short walk up the street. Never thought this would happen. I don’t want to be a burden to Husband (he says I’m not but when you’re used to your brain messing with you…well…). I have a wonderful therapist as well. But I don’t think it’s going to get better. And there are no guarantees either way when you think about it. Just had to get this off my chest. I’m scared.
