New Beach rules on top of all the other excessive regular MA beach rules.
Yeah, I feel that Massachusetts in general goes over board with the rules at the public beaches in general. Anyways I am all for these rules if its just for this season, I don’t want to see it continue after the crisis. I do question the no sports rule on the beaches. If you are playing ball with the group of people that you came with, then it shouldn’t matter. If they are going to not allow these sports, they should allow skimboarding and surfing on all beaches. IF you want to do these during the summer season on most public beaches, you need to wait until after 4pm when the lifeguards leave or they are in extremely small designated areas of the beach that become over crowded. If anyone knows of beaches that allow these let me know, I am looking 🙂
Actually Matt it’s better . In Hampton beach where we vacation every July massive restrictions start on June 1 when they open . Absolutely no sitting or lounging on the beach period , no playing of games on the beach . The beach is open for activities such as walking , jogging or swimming only no exception. The NH Governor did not say how long this will last so I have no idea if I’m going or not . I’m paying for a condo right across the street from the beach & have been doing so for many , many years with a big group . The seven day vacation consists of sitting on the beach all day for seven days & hoping you do not get rained out . If I can’t sit on the beach I’m not paying 1K with those kind of restrictions in place . Now that is stricter then any beach in mass . Crazy indeed .
yes that is crazy, I did not know that was what NH was doing with the beaches but they allow surfing and skimboarding sports that you generally can not do in Massachusetts until the guards leave but are individual and are good for social distancing 🙂 I have an issue on how strict mass beaches are with things overall and I think the no sports thing at all is stupid.
Scott I am sorry for your loss

FWIW which is a plug nickel
We have a home in humarock for August. We will lose the deposit but I already plan to add to that to help the homeowner. I agree with no sports on any public beach at the moment….they take up far too much space to stay apart. Public areas are not that large in many cases so if sports take the space, then others cannot distance.
I agree with skim boarding not allowed on public beaches also. It has always been a rule here and was in SC where my kids were first introduced to skimboards decades ago. There are tons of young kids playing at the edge of the water on public beaches.
But overall, we are in uncharted waters. Our leaders are doing the best they can. We could have the GA governor or someone else with the mindset of the president.
there should be designated areas for skimboarding like they do in Virginia and California. That way kids parents can keep the little ones away and the rest of us can enjoy. 🙂
Maybe talk to the powers that be.
In mass at least you can sit & lounge on the beach as long as you social distance but to not do that at Hampton is crazy . But it is what it is . Im going to the barber this week I have my appointment all set even though there isn’t much to cut I so miss the experience.
I found Hampton to be more of a move around type of beach anyway. I don’t tend to lounge on the beach unless im in the Caribbean as there are beach bars 😉
You can also ride horses on Hampton. Much more lax.
Wow really !! All the years I’ve been going up there I’ve never seen a horse on the beach cool
I’ve seen photos of some. That pony was in his 30s…..in amazing shape
I’ll never forget when my wife first started bringing me there when we started dating as she’s been going up with the same family since the age of 15. They were cleaning the beach with a tractor & I was like wow . Growing up in marshfield I never saw that & when I see it every year now I laugh .
Beautiful late spring day. Much cooler in Boston than in Rhode Island, where I was with some friends hiking. It was fairly busy with people, but everyone was mindful of physical distancing.
What concerns me, however, is reading (and viewing) reports of hundreds, if not thousands of large parties and very crowded public areas (eg, board walks, beaches) across the country. That’s really not smart. It’s fine to go outside, to be in small groups, hike, walk, bike, whatever. But, people must use common sense. Even though being outdoors is better than indoors, in the crowds that I saw on TV (Ocean City, Maryland, for example) the virus can and will find hosts.
The Dutch are fairly lenient when it comes to social distancing rules. Primary schools are back in session. Kids are also participating in outdoor sports. Many people have gone back to work. But, if the authorities see large gatherings anywhere they do intervene. They have what we would probably call a civil guard, who first hand out citations to violators, then stiff fines. Essentially, what authorities there are saying, enjoy being outdoors, have fun, but no monkey business. For example, no large parties in which there is no physical distancing, or insanely crowded board walks or streets.
San Francisco has put circles in many parks. My BIL yesterday said so far folks seem to be respecting them
I think they are there, and here, too, for the most part, and throughout the Northeast. It’s Maryland, Missouri, Minnesota, Ohio, Arkansas, North Carolina, Texas, etc … I’m concerned about. These are places that have not been affected as much by coronavirus until now. Recently, numbers of new cases in these states have been rising steadily.
Travel ban for non US citizens from Brazil is about to go into effect.
Per Walsh this morning Boston needs to practice social distancing for at least 6-8 months
C-19 for 5-25 is up…
