March Moods

7:28AM

SUMMARY…
You’ll see several sides of March during the next 6 days. Mild air flows into southeastern New England today as a warm front lifts north of the region and a cold front approaches from the west, but don’t expected a sunny Spring day. Clouds will dominate along with patches of drizzle and a few showers, then more numerous showers and possible thunderstorms will arrive during the afternoon and into tonight. After the cold front gets through the region it will slow down offshore and upper level low pressure hanging around will keep clouds dominant Friday, with rain showers as the colder air is slow to arrive, then with snow showers Saturday as the colder air indeed arrives. Sunday also looks chilly but brighter as high pressure moves in. That high will be around for a short stay as another low pressure area approaches Monday with a return to clouds and the threat of some rain showers as it turns less cold. But another shot of cold is likely to arrive Tuesday on the back side of the departing low pressure area. March exits and April arrives as Tuesday becomes Wednesday next week, and looking ahead we may have a nice day to welcome the new month. But if we know anything about April in this part of the country, don’t get used to nice weather because pockets of cold air aloft that often traverse the region, and a cold ocean sitting next to us often have other things to say about the weather.

Cold Ease

11:24PM

SUMMARY…
Cold high pressure will remain in control through Wednesday morning. As it moves offshore you will notice an easing of the cold during the day Wednesday, but clouds will start to roll in ahead of a warm front as even warmer air comes in, first aloft, and then at the surface by early Thursday. This transition may result in some areas of rain, especially northwest of Boston, late Wednesday to the early hours of Thursday. During the day Thursday, a stronger southerly flow will dominate but with lots of clouds and a threat of rain showers in the region between the warm front and an approaching cold front from the west. This front will bring an area of rain showers in during the afternoon and evening, marking an end to the brief warm-up. But as the system exits early Friday, cold air will be slow to arrive at first, so Friday itself will not be too chilly. A more significant chill will return for the weekend, though not to the degree of the current cold. At this time it appears the weekend will be mainly dry with the front far enough offshore to keep additional unsettled weather away. By Monday, a new low pressure area from the west will bring a chance of rain or snow showers.

The Week Ahead

9:54PM

SUMMARY…
This coming week, the last full week of March and the first full week of Spring, will feature weather fairly typical of March as far as variability goes, but will start out with weather that feels a little more like the middle of Winter, as Arctic high pressure controls the weather Monday and Tuesday. This high slips off to the east by Wednesday and after 2 sunny days to start the week we’ll see some clouds arrive during the day as milder air moves in. A warm front will send most of its moisture northwest of the region but some light rain cannot be ruled out by Wednesday night, especially north and west of Boston. On Thursday, a stronger south to southwest flow will usher in some very mild air in comparison to what we have seen recently. But this will come with a lot of cloudiness and an increasing threat of rain showers as a cold front approaches from the west. This front will push through Thursday night, when most of the wet weather will occur. The end of the week and next weekend holds some uncertainty. For now, I’m going to go with the scenario of the front pushing offshore Friday but staying not that far away, so that a wave of low pressure may bring some unsettled weather into the region for Friday night and Saturday. This would be followed by a further eastward push of the front as high pressure noses in on Sunday, bringing dry but cool weather. The end of the week is low confidence and subject to much adjustment.

TUESDAY: Sunny. Highs 35-40, some lower 40s interior southeastern MA. Wind light NW to N.
WEDNESDAY: Increasing clouds. Chance of light rain at night. Low 15. High 45.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. PM rain showers. Low 40. High 55.
FRIDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of rain/mix at night. Low 35. High 45.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain/mix. Low 35. High 40.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 30. High 45.

Weekend Update

1:13PM

SUMMARY…
Spring was ushered in by a snow event across much of southern New England. Nothing unusual about that as it has happened many times. The weak disturbance that prolonged the snow into midday Saturday as now exiting and a little sun may pop out for a while across some areas. But this won’t last too long as a trough and cold front will swing through this evening with a few rain showers, then a few snow showers, and a sharp temperature drop. Late-season Arctic air will move in overnight and Sunday and remain in place through Monday, though those 2 days will be bright and dry. After a very cold start to Tuesday as high pressure is overhead, the strong sun and a return southwest flow on the back side of high pressure moving away will allow temperatures to start a moderation. This will also continue into midweek but that period of time will not be as sunny as we’ll have a warm front scoot across the region Wednesday followed by a cold front later Thursday. The timing of this front will determine how warm we get here on Thursday, so there is some uncertainty in that part of the forecast. Further uncertainty exists for the end of the week as there may be storm development on the lingering cold front as it slows down offshore.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…
SATURDAY AFTERNOON: Snow showers depart coastal areas early, clouds break for periods of sun, then clouds return by very late from the west with a few rain showers reaching areas west of Boston by then. Highs around 40. Wind light variable, then becoming SW 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT (9PM-MIDNIGHT): Variably cloudy. Scattered snow showers from northwest to southeast. Temperatures fall to near 30. Wind W 5-15 MPH with stronger gusts.
SATURDAY OVERNIGHT: Clearing. Lows around 20. Wind WNW 10-20 MPH and gusty.
SUNDAY: Sunny. Highs around 30. Wind W 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
MONDAY: Sunny. Low 15. High 35.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 15. High 40.
WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Low 25. High 45.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. PM rain showers. Low 40. High 55.
FRIDAY: Cloudy. Chance of rain or snow. Low 35. High 40.

Spring? Try Again!

11:55PM

COMMENTARY…
Vernal Equinox, 6:45PM Friday. Some magic moment when suddenly all turns warm and tranquil? Myth! This is New England. Ever hear of that body of water with 40 degree water nearby? Yeah. It’s called the Atlantic Ocean. Oh and there is this giant reservoir of cold air in a neighboring country called “Canada”. Maybe some of you have heard of it? They like hockey up there, a lot. If you have a frequent trough that extends from that area into the northeastern US, and we do right now, then you get frequent cold air. And despite the ever increasing sun angle and length of daylight, the fact remains we are still in a colder than average pattern. And that pattern is not done yet, nor will it be for a while.

SUMMARY…
Cold high pressure retreats to the northeast while low pressure passes south of the region through Friday night. Some snow will work into southern New England but this will be a generally light event. That exits early Saturday and an Arctic cold front approaches from the west, with a brief milder shot of air ahead of it, a few rain to snow showers Saturday evening, then much colder air comes back for Sunday and Monday. But wait! It’s not all about the cold. Moderation is due as we head toward the middle of next week before the next front arrives later Thursday.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…
OVERNIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 10-15 rural areas, 15-20 elsewhere. Wind light variable.
FRIDAY: Cloudy. Periods of light snow south of Boston mid to late afternoon with minor accumulation. Highs 30-35. Wind light SE.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Periods of light snow mostly Boston south with additional minor accumulation. Lows in the 20s. Wind light variable.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of light rain and snow early. Chance of rain showers late in the day. Highs in the 40s. Wind S to SW 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Sunny. Low 20. High 35.
MONDAY: Sunny. Low 15. High 35.
TUESDAY: Sunny. Low 15. High 40.
WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 25. High 45.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. PM rain showers. Low 40. High 55.

Winter Overtime

2:54AM

SUMMARY…
The calendar says the first day of Spring is Friday but the weather will continue to be more like Winter at times into the early days of Spring. There are no drastic changes to the previous discussion. Today will be a bright, windy, and cold day, with wind finally dying off as high pressure builds overhead by evening. Low pressure will pass south of New England on Friday night, but should be close enough to bring a swath of snow into southeastern New England Friday afternoon to early Saturday, which may end as a mix of snow/rain Saturday morning. Another low pressure area passing northwest of New England late Saturday will bring milder air in right behind the first low, and a cold front will sweep through the region Saturday night with rain to snow showers possible, but a certain return to much colder air for Sunday and Monday as high pressure from Canada builds toward the region then overhead by Tuesday. This high should slip offshore by Wednesday of next week with some moderation in temperature.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…
TODAY: Sunny. Highs in the 30s. Wind NW 15-25 MPH gusting 30-35 MPH.
TONIGHT: Clear evening. Increasing clouds overnight. Lows in the 10s. Diminishing NW wind.
FRIDAY: Cloudy. Snow arriving mid to late afternoon from southwest to northeast. Widespread snow at night with some accumulation likely, especially along and south of the Mass Pike. Highs in the 30s. Wind light variable morning, light SE afternoon.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of light snow/rain morning. Chance of late day rain showers. Chance of nighttime snow showers. Low 30. High 45.
SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 15. High 30.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 10. High 35.
TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 15. High 40.
WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Low 25. High 45.

Having A Blast

1:48AM

SUMMARY…
A March cold blast arrived Tuesday afternoon as a strong cold front moved rapidly through the region, triggering showers of rain, small hail, and snow, with even some thunder reported in a few locations. Of even more significance were very strong wind gusts, up to 60 MPH in some areas causing damage and power outages. Winds have continued to have strong gusts since, and this will continue through Wednesday, with only a slow diminishing of wind Wednesday night through Thursday as high pressure approaches. This high will then slide just south and east of the region by Friday as a low pressure system approaches from the southwest. It looks like the bulk of this system will pass just south of southern New England, but will bring at least cloudiness and possibly some rain and snow to at least southern MA southward later Friday and Friday night. As this system exits, another low will track northwest of New England and Saturday will turn out milder with a southwesterly flow developing, but rain showers may arrive later Saturday and end as snow showers early Sunday as yet another cold blast arrives and lasts into the start of next week.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…
TODAY: Sunshine and passing clouds. Slight chance of a snow shower. Highs 30-35. Wind NW 15-35 MPH, gusting 40-50 MPH at times. Wind chill 10-20.
TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 10-15 except 15-20 coastal and urban areas. Wind NW 15-30 MPH, gusting 35-45 MPH at times. Wind chill -5 to +5.
THURSDAY: Sunny. Highs in the 30s. Wind NW 15-25 MPH with higher gusts, diminishing gradually.
FRIDAY: Cloudy. Chance of light rain/snow especially southern areas late afternoon and night. Low 25. High 40.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of light rain/snow early. Chance of rain showers late. Low 35. High 45.
SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Chance of snow showers early. Low 30. High 35.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 20. High 35.
TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 20. High 40.

Cold Cut

12:24AM

SUMMARY…
Low pressure passing north of southern New England today will first drag a warm front through from west to east with some areas of light rain early to mid morning followed by a shot of mild air between it and a fast-moving cold front which will cut through the region from northwest to southeast during the afternoon. A few snow showers may cross the area later in the day as the cold air arrives. And this cold shot will be significant for March, making Wednesday feel more like mid Winter, counteracted only by the strong March sun which will shine among passing clouds, which may bring a few isolated snow showers. A more tranquil but still chilly day will result from high pressure being overhead on Thursday. By Friday, low pressure will approach from the southwest throwing at least cloudiness into the region. Some ocean moisture may also add to the cloudiness as high pressure pushes to the north and sets up an easterly flow between itself and the approaching low. It is still unclear to me if any precipitation will reach the region from the low, and if it does, what form it will take. For now, will lean toward a light mix/rain event late Friday. This should move out for a milder Saturday but a strong cold front will return the cold to southern New England by Sunday and Monday.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…
OVERNIGHT: Clouding up. Lows upper 20s to middle 30s but rising a bit toward dawn. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy with areas of light rain morning. Partly sunny afternoon including a risk of passing rain to snow showers late day. Highs in the 40s, may touch 50 a few locations. Wind W 10-20 MPH with higher gusts, shifting to NW 15-25 MPH with gusts 30-45 MPH later in the day.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy with isolated snow showers. Lows 15-20. Wind NW 15-30 MPH with higher gusts. Wind chill 0-10.
WEDNESDAY: Sunshine and passing clouds. Slight chance of a snow shower. Highs 27-35, coldest in highest elevations northwest of Boston, least cold across Cape Cod. Wind NW 15-25 MPH and gusty.
THURSDAY: Sunny. Low 15. High 35.
FRIDAY: Cloudy. Chance of rain/mix late. Low 25. High 40.
SATURDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of rain/snow showers late. Low 35. High 45.
SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Chance of snow showers early. Low 15. High 30.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 15. High 35.

The Week Ahead

1:58AM

COMMENTARY…
It’s old news by now, but Boston has done it. As cold air came down from the north and was also dragged down from above by rain to snow showers Sunday afternoon, the snow showers become moderate to heavy and deposited 2.9 inches of snow at Logan Airport, the official measuring site (whether you approve or not), taking the seasonal snowfall total-to-date to 108.6 inches, surpassing the old record of 107.6 inches set back in the 1995-1996 Winter. So, it’s done now, right? Come on, you know better. Snow chances dwindle as we head into Spring, and the Astronomical version of that season begins on Friday morning. But the weather doesn’t really care what the calendar says, and so I can assure you as we head through the final weeks of March and into the early days of April, though we won’t be talking about relentless cold and a barrage of snowstorms that we endured from late January through February, we’ll be watching a few more snow threats. That’s how it goes around here. History shows it, and you know it.

SUMMARY…
Here in New England we remain in a cold corner of the country. The recent pattern was locked in with this, and even though there has been some relaxation of the pattern, it still remains somewhat in place and will continue to be in place for some time. Meanwhile, much of the US enjoyed fairly warm weather for March. This air would push eastward and eventually reach the Northeast but a flow out of Canada will cut it off, and will do it in a big way in the form of a cold front that will come through here on Tuesday, with a secondary reinforcement early Wednesday. So after a not-too-bad Monday, temperature-wise, with a good deal of sun, Tuesday will bring lots of clouds but with mild enough air so that the showers accompanying the cold front will be in the form of rain. Then, in comes the cold. And the potential for snow showers will exist early Wednesday along the secondary front. Then it’s dry and cold from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday as high pressure from Canada takes over. By Friday, as the air mass moderates, along will come low pressure out of the southeastern US and off the Mid Atlantic Coast by later in the day as a narrow ridge of high pressure hangs on to the north of southern New England. This will result in an onshore flow and Friday will likely turn out cloudy. Whether or not some wet weather makes it from the south remains to be seen. The weekend looks unsettled but I’m not quite sure how things are going to play out yet, so I’ll leave it at that for now and revisit this in the next couple days.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…

MONDAY NIGHT: Clouding up. Lows in the 30s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

Weekend Update

9:14PM

SUMMARY…
The rain part of the weekend storm is over, having exited to the east on Saturday evening. Low as low pressure exits, an inverted surface trough develops as a mid and upper level low comes across the region Sunday. This means showers, starting as rain or a mix in many areas Sunday morning but transitioning to snow showers as it turns colder. It’s unclear on how persistent these will be, but they may deliver some minor snow accumulation to eastern MA and southern NH before ending during the evening. Monday starts cold and dry then turns milder with advancing clouds ahead of a low pressure area from the Great Lakes which will pass north of the region early Tuesday, dragging an Arctic cold front through. This system will produce rain showers ending as snow showers. The Wednesday through Friday period look cold and dry though a few additional snow showers may be isolated around the region on Wednesday as a secondary trough moves through. By the very end of next week and the start of the weekend, we may be dealing with a messy weather situation as Astronomical Spring arrives. This is far from a certainty as not all medium range guidance is in agreement about this potential system so far in advance. For now, just something to watch.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…
OVERNIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Scattered to isolated rain showers. Temperatures steady 35-40 southern NH and northern MA and 40-45 southern MA and RI. Wind variable to NW 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers of rain and mix becoming all snow from north to south during the afternoon. Possible snow accumulation of a coating to 1 inch from northern RI north and east except possibly 1-2 inches in a few locations from Boston northward. Temperatures falling slowly through the 30s. Wind N to NW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy with scattered snow showers early, then clearing. Lows around 20. Wind NW 10-20 MPH and gusty.
MONDAY: Sunny morning. Increasing clouds afternoon. Highs 40-45. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Variably cloudy. Rain showers changing to snow showers morning. Temperatures fall through 30s. Becoming windy.
WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Isolated snow showers. Windy. Low 15. High 30.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 15. High 35.
FRIDAY: Increasing clouds. Chance of snow/mix at night. Low 20. High 40.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain/mix/snow. Low 30. High 40.

Weekend Outlook

7:46PM

SUMMARY…
Here comes an unsettled March weekend. Nothing spectacular or unusual. The system will be largely rainfall versus anything else for the bulk of its precipitation, though some freezing rain may lead things off Saturday morning, and some snow showers will prolong the end of the system during Sunday. This all takes place as a complex low pressure area lifts northeastward into the region Saturday then sinks back to the east southeast on Sunday. It’s out of here Monday but hot on its heels is another low pressure system – this one moving out of central Canada and passing north of New England by Tuesday. But it will send clouds in later Monday and some rain showers changing to snow showers as a strong cold front passes through on Tuesday. This introduces much colder air but mainly dry weather for the middle to end portion of next week.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 25-30 except 30-35 South Coast. Wind S under 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Cloudy. Rain arrives by mid morning RI and southern MA and by late morning northern MA and southern NH though it may begin as a period of freezing rain especially interior MA and southern NH. Pockets of heavier rain possible, especially southern MA and RI during the afternoon. Areas of fog. Highs 40-45. Wind SE to E up to 15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Rain ending. Lows in the 30s. Wind variable 5-15 MPH shifting to NW.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Snow showers developing, may start as rain showers south of Boston. Minor snow accumulation possible in some locations, mainly under 1 inch, but a few areas over 1 inch possible in northeastern MA and southern NH. Temperatures steady in the 30s. Wind NW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
MONDAY: Increasing clouds. Chance of rain showers night. Low 25. High 45.
TUESDAY: Chance of snow showers morning. Decreasing clouds. Temperatures fall through 30s.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 15. High 30.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 15. High 35.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 20. High 40.

Ready To Make A Chilling

3:14AM

SUMMARY…
The mild tease is over. And now the colder pattern returns and hangs around for a while. It starts as a cold front drops southeastward across southern new England to start the day today. A few snow showers may accompany this front across southern NH and northeastern MA, otherwise the day will feature some clouds giving way to more sun with a gusty wind and much cooler air. Tonight turns quite cold and the chill continues Friday with sun filtered by high clouds as high pressure slips off to the east and low pressure approaches from the southwest. This low will take the weekend to pass through this area. The cold air will retreat, allowing the bulk of the precipitation to fall as rain, though some snow/ice may start things out in parts of northern MA and southern NH early Saturday. But Saturday night, cold air may try to work back in from the north as it also starts to cool down aloft. This may allow a mix or change to snow at least north and west of Boston. It’s not quite clear yet how much of a mix/change will take place. This will be something to follow closely. Any rain/snow should taper off Sunday morning though snow and rain showers may linger well into the day. By Monday, expect clearing and cool weather. A strong cold front is expected to arrive late Tuesday introducing a late-season shot of significant cold for the middle of next week.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…
TODAY: Partly cloudy early to mid morning with passing snow showers possible across southern NH and northeastern MA, then mostly sunny. Temperatures steady 35-42. Wind W shifting to NW increasing to 15-25 MPH with gusts over 30 MPH.
TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 15-20 inland, 20s coast. Diminishing NW wind.
FRIDAY: Sunshine filtered by high cloudiness at times. Highs around 40. Wind light W to SW.
SATURDAY: Cloudy. Rain may start as mix northern areas early then may change back to mix/snow especially north and west of Boston at night. Temperatures in the 30s.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of mix/snow north, mix/rain south early, then rain/snow showers. Temperatures in the 30s.
MONDAY: Clearing. Low 25. High 40.
TUESDAY: Sunny start, clouds with rain to snow showers late. Low 25. High 45.
WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy and windy. Low 20. High 35.

A Mild Treat Then Back To Reality

5:20PM

SUMMARY…
A weak storm passing south of New England will toss a shield of rain into southern New England this evening, but it should be light enough that it does not cause any flooding issues. This exits by early Wednesday and sun returns with mild air for several hours before a cold front passes and sends the temperature into a tumble late in the day and at night. This sets up dry and chilly weather for Thursday and Friday. The weekend continues to look unsettled with periods of precipitation, probably starting as a snow/mix early Saturday, going to rain in most if not all areas, then trending back to a mix or snow for some areas before tapering off later Sunday. Still time to work out the details as this will be a complex low pressure area stretched out across the US Northeast. A one-day break Monday may be followed by another unsettled day Tuesday of next week.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…
TONIGHT: Cloudy. A period of light rain southern NH and northern MA which may freeze on surfaces in some of the valleys, and light to moderate rain from the Boston area south and southeast, ending by dawn. Areas of fog. Lows 32-40, coolest interior valleys. Wind light SE to S.
WEDNESDAY: Breaking clouds and areas of fog early, then partly to mostly sunny. Highs 40s Cape Cod, 50s elsewhere. Wind W increasing to 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. An isolated rain or snow shower southern NH and north central MA early. Lows in the 20s. Wind W to NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 35-40 interior MA and southern NH, 40-45 RI and coastal MA. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.
FRIDAY: Sunshine followed by increasing clouds. Lows 15-20. Highs 35-40.
SATURDAY: Cloudy. Snow/mix to rain. Lows 20-25. Highs 40-45.
SUNDAY: Cloudy. Rain to mix/snow. Temperatures fall from near 40 to near 30.
MONDAY: Clearing. Lows 25-30. Highs 40-45.
TUESDAY: Cloudy. Chance of rain/mix/snow. Lows 30-35. Highs 35-40.

Don’t Get Too Used To It

7:43PM

COMMENTARY…
Reprieve. Melting. Mild. Spring? Sorry folks, it’s still Winter, and will be for another 11 days on the calendar and who knows how long in the overall weather pattern. But despite the couple of milder days now, the overall pattern is still a chilly one, and will not be absent of late season snow threats. Many that are lulled into the false sense of security will be jolted out of it by the reality of a colder air mass arriving Thursday and a potential storm this coming weekend, and more “fun” to follow next week.

SUMMARY…
Arctic air has retreated northward into Canada and will stay there for a while. A storm system will track across the US Southeast and off the Mid Atlantic Coast by Tuesday night and the northern edge of its precipitation shield will make it into southeastern New England, but this time it will be mild enough so that it rains instead of snows. After that exits Wednesday, a trough and then a cold front pass through the region. The trough will dry the air out, but with the colder air hanging back until the cold front passes, it will allow the temperature to break 50 in some locations for the first time in a long while on Wednesday. This short lived “warm-up” will be followed by a couple chilly and dry days Thursday and Friday. Over the weekend, a slow-moving and evolving storm system will bring unsettled and chilly weather. It’s not quite clear what form the precipitation will take at any given time, but both rain and snow are probable. The details will be ironed out as the time draws closer.
