Saturday April 5 2025 Forecast (7:17AM)

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 5-9)

And now back to “reality”. I hope you enjoyed the warm interlude yesterday, because the overall pattern is a cool one for a while, and most certainly this 5-day period. We have an unsettled weekend but it’ll have a dry start and a dry finish. It’s from midday today to early afternoon Sunday that we have some occasional wet weather to contend with as a wave of low pressure moves through the region and pulls a warm front toward the region later today. That frontal boundary will manage to get into southern portions of our region for a while on Sunday as the low moves by, but it doesn’t look like it’ll get all the way through, before being pushed back to the south. This sets up more of a temperature contrast across the region for Sunday. Monday, another wave of low pressure comes along with the front to the south, bringing an episode of rain, except potential sleet and snow anywhere north of I-90 for a while. This should move by quickly enough and during daylight to prevent any accumulation of frozen stuff from it. We’ll have another small but potent disturbance and surface low reflection moving through the area Tuesday. Had this system been quicker and/or further south than it’ll likely be we’d have been talking about some folks breaking out snow shovels, and while some snow or snow showers can occur in parts of the region Tuesday morning along with some mix/rain, the system should be another daylight-occurring quick-mover to prevent “trouble”, with just some lingering sprinkles/flurries by afternoon as the system moves away and a chilly northwesterly air flow takes over. This will set us up for a fair but chilly day Wednesday as high pressure builds in.

TODAY: Thickening overcast. Rain arrives west to east midday on, may start as sleet southern NH. Highs 43-50. Wind N shifting to E up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Cloudy. Periods of rain. Areas of fog. A late-night batch of heavier showers / thunderstorms may occur closer to the South Coast region. Temperatures steady in 40s. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Cloudy with rain showers and areas of drizzle / fog until midday. Mostly cloudy afternoon with a slight chance of a passing rain shower. Highs 48-55 north of I-90, 55-62 I-90 southward. Wind variable 5-15 MPH, SW for a while I-90 belt southward.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Rain shower chance increases overnight. Patchy fog. Lows 37-44. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Cloudy morning with periods of rain, may mix with snow interior higher elevations. Mostly cloudy afternoon. Temperatures fall to 35-42 early, then late-day highs 43-50. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Rain/snow showers possible overnight. Lows 33-40. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of rain/mix/snow showers, diminishing with time. Highs 41-48. Wind variable 5-15 MPH becoming NW 10-20 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 28-35. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 45-52. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 10-14)

High pressure hangs on to start the period with fair weather expected. Watching later April 11 through the April 12-13 weekend for unsettled weather as low pressure evolves and may be slower-moving than previous systems. Fair weather should return by the end of the period as it departs. Temperatures generally below normal.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 15-19)

Overall pattern is cool. One or 2 episodes of unsettled weather are possible.

    1. Figures that our last opportunity for snow will go by the boards. Oh well.

I guess it’s time to tally up the final seasonal totals. I’ll still “count” a little longer though. ❄️ 🙂

  1. I couldn’t find the NOAA page but wanted to post this. Very sad for science having goverment erasing scientific facts from public access. All that work including some of which I been involved with. Alot of the grey literature is at risk of disappearing but there are people getting it prior to it being erased. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-04-04/us-weather-agency-websites-to-vanish-under-planned-contract-cuts?accessToken=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9.eyJzb3VyY2UiOiJTdWJzY3JpYmVyR2lmdGVkQXJ0aWNsZSIsImlhdCI6MTc0Mzc2OTY3NSwiZXhwIjoxNzQ0Mzc0NDc1LCJhcnRpY2xlSWQiOiJTVTVSUjNEV0xVNjgwMCIsImJjb25uZWN0SWQiOiJDODQyRERFMUM0RDI0OUVDQUQ5REU4NDhDQkZGNUNBOCJ9.KhuNHt0rx-q0VZLGRQ1omrvtoGxAQGWJBCpRXr8eY5c&leadSource=uverify%20wall

  2. Good morning and thank you TK
Looks like more crappy April weather ahead. Yuck!!!!
I detest Spring in SNE. I really do!!!

Will it change by May or linger to June or even the 4th of July?????

    Wouldn’t surprise me.

    1. I’ll take lingers to June, the majority of the time with a day occasionally sprinkled in to let you know what your missing. 🙂

  3. Thanks, TK.

I’d like to echo what TK said about the way sports radio and others (news stations) sometimes report on things. On Friday, it was about the 3 errors the Red Sox made during the home opener and the fact that it didn’t turn out to be a blowout. The negativity is incessant. The problem is negativity sells.

By the way, despite the errors yesterday, I believe the 2025 Red Sox will be an excellent defensive team. I’ll eat crow on the 1st of October if I’m proven wrong.

  4. I peeked at Tampa last night who I think notched an official heat wave to start April.

They are running 8.2F above avg for April.

It’s one thing to have that anomaly in the northern US, quite another in the south where their avg temps are so warm to start with.

That SE ridge has been mighty the last 5 days and one of the 2 features that’s created the battle zone over the Mississippi Valley to produce severe weather and record rainfall.

    1. That ridge was predicted by guidance a while back to be pretty strong, but it ended up further east than originally progged. Also sometimes some of the hottest temperature of the year in that area occur prior to and after the heart of summer.

They are running an impressive + anomaly though!

  5. HRRR is adamant at bringing a tad bit of measurable frozen precipitation into portions of SNE Monday.

      1. That’s encouraging at least. My problem is I sometimes give up too easily. April 2025 “may” get accumulating snow yet, at least until TK gives the “all clear” signal. ❄️ 😉

  6. Thanks, TK

Ovechkin tied The Great One’s record last night (894). Ovey did it in one less game played than Gretzky. When given the chance to break the record with a Blackhawk, open-net goal at the end of the game, Ovey refused, saying he wants to break the record with a goalie in net.

    What class.

      1. Love Ovi! Would have loved him as a Bruins, but we can’t have everyone. 😉

But he’s been great for the Caps and for the league. I believe he’s got 1 year left on his contract. The record may fall tomorrow in NY against the Islanders, a game that will be available locally on TNT. I’ll have it on.

          1. I watch highlights of each game. 🙂 Rarely watch an NBA game though.

I still watch EVERY Bruins game, and I’ll stay with them right to the end of this season. I watch the playoffs, whether they’re in them or not, but mostly in highlight / game recap form, and then watch the finals more completely, again regardless of who is in it.

Red Sox: I do a lot of daily highlights, and occasionally listen to a game on radio, and rarely watch one from start to finish.

I’m also paying attention to the Final Four in both men’s & women’s NCAA basketball since I do pools for fun. Women’s games were last night, men’s games are tonight. Final for women is tomorrow, South Carolina vs UConn. We’ll find out tonight which of the final four for men (Duke, Auburn, Houston, Florida) will be in the final on Monday. The NCAA hockey Frozen Four (that SAK doesn’t care about haha) is Thursday & Saturday next week. Lots to follow!

            1. I no longer do the NCAA brackets for fun or otherwise. Got tired of having my brackets BUSTED every year. Unless a “local” team is in the tournament, I could care less. 🙂

UConn doesn’t count! Not “local” enough for me. 😉

              1. Busted brackets don’t take away from the fun have trying. I don’t need to win in order to enjoy something. For me, it’s the fun of trying to get it – win or lose. I’ve only “won” one pool. It was back around 2000 at the private weather company that I (and SAK) worked for at the time.

And UConn completely counts. I’ve been a fan of that program before anybody knew who they were. I have family in CT. 🙂

                1. I have family in CT as well (New Haven). I just would like to see some MA teams like BC, BU, HC, UMass for a change. 🙂

You and I are definitely “built” differently when it comes to rooting for sports teams. 🙂

              2. There were 3 New England teams in the NCAA tournament this year:

                UConn
                Yale
                Bryant

Bryant is in Smithfield, RI, and won the America East Tournament. That league includes Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and of course, the RiverHawks of the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

  7. It’s been quite a week for my former students!

Here’s Erik Dunn, MHS Class of 2017, singing the national anthem last night before the Celts-Suns game in celebration of World Autism Day (April 2) and Autism Acceptance Night.

    https://www.facebook.com/reel/562878622915780

Sean Newcomb is scheduled to start at Fenway Park against the Cards tomorrow night on the national ESPN telecast. What a thrill it must be for him for pitch at Fenway in a Sox uniform, a team and a place he grew up cherishing! Sean’s pitched at Fenway before, but not in a Red Sox uniform.

Hopefully the game gets played today so as not to affect the pitching rotation.

    1. This is simply awesome. Autism awareness and acceptance and understanding are very important to me. Well done, Mr. Dunn!

Also, best of luck to Sean! Not looking great for playing today, but whatever happens it’s still going to be great when he gets to do this!

    1. Was at Fenway at 1:00 for batting practice (cancelled) and spent 5 hours there before it was postponed. On the plus side—my son got 7 autographs including Crochet and Campbell and we get to go back and try again tomorrow!

        1. Bring in the crowds, open the concession stands, make lots of $, THEN announce the postponement. That’s how they do it. 😉

            1. Well, many people care about the fans, but the people who are responsible for the bottom line are only interested in the bottom line and the best way to make the number as fat as possible…
